• BASE’s microfinance scheme was developed with and is funded entirely by Shivia.
• Shivia started working with BASE in May 2009
• Support BASE to provide training and micro-loans to disempowered women in rural and conflict areas.
• Loans are, on average, £160 and are repaid over a one year period.
• Beneficiaries earn around £35 profit from these enterprises.
• The most popular activity is livestock-keeping (pigs, goats, sheep, cows, buffalo and poultry).
• Members enabled to maintain their daily needs, educate their children, heightened levels of female empowerment minimising violence against women
